UKC - Kigali

The Government of Rwanda, through the District and Sector, gave my family a household cow. My dad was asked to establish a kraal and feeding garden to cultivate pasture, and did so. This Friesian cow, given for free, gave us milk and dung, giving us enough for home use and some to sell. However, when summer came, the pasture was depleted due to small plot cultivation, which made it difficult to produce food crops and cow fodder. Our beloved cow started to starve, so we had to rise at 4 am to find thin dry shrubs and grass from roadsides and river banks. Our milk production fell from 12 liters a day to only 3. The family was under a lot of stress and the cow's mooing caused complaints from the neighbourhood about the noise.

Hydroponics Fodder. I liaised with an external expert to get the technology to our door, and the UKC member and vision bearer said that Rwanda was a country of solutions, not setbacks and regrets.
